Stepping Out Strong™

https://www.ncoa.org/healthy-aging/falls-prevention/falls-prevention-awareness-day/A Healthy Path to Improving Strength and Balance.

Every 13 seconds, an older adult is seen in an emergency department for a fall – and falls are the leading cause of hip fractures.

To keep people on their feet, American Bone Health has organized the largest community awareness campaign to support the National Council on Aging’s Fall Prevention Week.  We will assess balance and provide a series of simple exercises to improve balance, strength and flexibility.

Program Overview

During September, American Bone Health will host Stepping Out Strong™ in communities around the country in conjunction with the National Council on Aging’s Fall Prevention Awareness Day (FPAD).

Stepping Out Strong is a 1-hour presentation that supports the ready, steady, and balanced lifestyles theme by educating older adults about how to reduce their risk of falling with a series of simple exercises to improve balance, strength and flexibility.

By the end of the program, participants will:

  • Assess their balance confidence.
  • Test their balance with a single-leg stand.
  • Learn simple exercises to build into their daily routines to improve strength and balance.
  • Leave with a worksheet of tips to identify fall risks, exercises and a goal for improvement.

“This is very rich information for all seniors to continue to stay active, even at home.”
